I work in the tech team line managing engineers, ensuring they're happy in their role, they're motivated, and they're set up for success.
During the apprenticeship I learnt incredibly valuable skills, including listening, helping others solve their own problems, how to coach people rather than managing or mentoring them. Most impactful was the listening, it's not something we're formally taught in our education, and it makes so much difference when you're listening properly.
I've transformed the way I communicate with others, how I value and structure all of my conversations, and I feel I'm a much better person since completing the course. I enjoyed the learning, and I especially enjoyed the growth and change I can see in myself.
The start felt a little disorganised, when we were asked to go out and coach someone before we were taught anything about coaching! But once we got into the course and settled into the flow it worked quite well.
I was given all the support I required to complete the apprenticeship. Due to the nature of my role, and how I manage my own time, I was able to create the space to focus on my learning. I also completed the course with several other people in the same role, and the support in our little group was fantastic and made all the difference!
The support from the provider was fine, there could have been more support, and more structure to the support. My coach was always available if I needed her and would respond quickly, but more regular and structured time would have been good. And some formal coaching sessions from the provider would have helped a lot.
100%, I often feel like I'm infinitely better at my role now than I was when I started the apprenticeship. My focus has changed, and I value the coaching conversations I have with my direct reports.
Yes, there are lots of things like this, they're not always advertised, but they're there when you start to look for them!
Yes
The dedication to learning and development is amazing! I love learning, and I enjoy formal, long-term qualifications, and the fact that ASOS have given me the time and space to learn a new skill is incredibly valuable!
Just be yourself!
