My day to day at the moment consists of a lot of customer calls and speaking to my team who help me out a lot with getting prepared for customer calls which i will lead myself. Apart from my day to day i also get involved in a lot of different things outside my role like helping out with events to help promote apprenticeships to getting involved in marketing videos and interviews which are broadcasted outside of the business to everyone. Luckily i also have the opportunity as part of my apprenticeship of moving into different parts of the business, so last year i was in a cloud rotation whereas this year i am in a mobile rotation and this continues to change once a year.
Yes i have learnt a lot of new skills and developed a lot of my time management and networking skills. During my first year i got to use my coding skills developed within university to help me with a project at work which was creating a PowerApps software for the internal business to use.
I honestly do enjoy it, which is why i get involved in all the external promotions about apprenticeships because i want to share my experience to allow others to see it is the best decision i have made but also having me there to ask questions hence why i have also taken it up to my TikTok to continue showcasing what i do so it's not just all talk.
I have a dedicated manager who manages all the apprentices and makes sure to have daily catch ups on what we are doing/ have been doing making sure we have a structure to follow so we're not just left hanging doing nothing.
Aside from our one to ones she also matches up with mentors within each of our rotations so that we have all the support we need during our apprenticeship. BT also has dedicated apprenticeship teams and Early Careers who are easily contacted for any questions/ worries we have.
I am able to go into university for the duration of one week for what we call a launch week to introduce our new modules for the semester and this happens every 3 months which is good cause during the course we also get to interact with other apprentices form different organisations. Then after that we continue to have online lectures every Friday and are able to talk to our lecturers throughout the online lecture and emails which they respond to rather quickly.
There are some modules that correlate more than others to the work that i a doing but that also depends on which role you're in, other than that we are taught within our roles before being thrown into a project and we develop more skills from there which we can then sometimes cross over to write about in uni assignments.
There is an Association of apprentices programme but colleagues within the business often make days out outside of work and BT also posts new events every month that you can take part in within the building which i enjoy seeing what they have planned every month.
Yes
I would want everyone to have the amazing opportunity i have to get a degree whilst also working and being paid to do so. I find it easier to develop skills and take in information as i am doung it rather than reading from textbooks where information will change or will not even be used by the time you leave your uni course.
To not give up on applying to not only BT but lots of different organisations, because it is not easy to get an apprenticeship and the truth is there are going to be rejections throughout the process. Definitely give it your all and research the companies before going into interviews and when you get to that stage show them that you also have other interests and you don't have only your grades to show, get involved in work experience or even just attending talks which you can then later speak about.
