Initially in my first year which I am now coming close to finishing I have been through a training programme which involves many key skills which will be used in my role at BMW. These include units such as bench fitting, milling, turning, PLCs, mechanical maintenance, electrics and much more.
I have learnt many new skills. The units I enjoyed studying most were the more physical mechanical maintenance, milling, and bench fitting. These are great as they allow you to learn how to hand fit and make tools and components aswell as carry out maintenance on machines such as lathes, milling machines and pillar drills.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my programme so far and am satisfied that I have found myself in the best possible line of work for me. The company is great and have ensured we have settled into our first year of apprenticeship and offered help whenever we have required it. The company benefits are also great.
The training provider BMET has had its flaws at times with organisation and structure however we have completed units up to great standards and have learnt many new skills. The company set out our plan very well and the training provider has done well to keep up with it. Looking forward to going to the plant more often.
The companies support has been great and have always been active on helping us out with any issues we may have quickly and efficiently. This has given me great confidence in the company as I know that if I require anything I just need to ask and it will be dealt with quickly and professionally.
The training provider does well to support however there has been times where it has taken time to resolve issues. The support is good when given however at times we have to prompt them to give us it.
I feel as if it will help us a lot in our roles as we are learning a broad range of skills so that when we come to working we have a broader skill set to use in our roles. This is good as it gives us confidence in ourselves approaching tasks at work.
At the beginning of the apprenticeship the company took new apprentices from over the UK on a trip to Skern lodge which was done as an ice breaker to help us get to know those around us and feel more comfortable in beginning our new roles. This was very helpful and I really enjoyed it.
Yes
I would always recommend BMW as they are a strong company with great benefits. They are pro active on helping employees with any issues they may have and are constantly pushing for us to do better and improve ourselves. Thoroughly enjoying my time here and thankful that I can begin my career at such a great company with an outstanding reputation.
