As an apprentice, my day-to-day role changes constantly over the time of my apprenticeship. I work beside different products on different days and I am constantly learning new knowledge and skills.
As the apprenticeship has sent me to college, I have learned many new skills and furthered the skills I had before I started. These new skills are then backed up by information during lectures, so that they stay with me.
The programme that I am currently on is one where I work within real projects and can have an impact within the company.
Selex really does value its employees. I can tell this from both, the other employees and how I am treated just as a first year apprentice.
My programme is set for the new few years. This means that I know, in advance, what I will be doing next or who I will be working beside. The programme also has space for change so I can move to a preferred area if I really wanted to.
I have lots of support from multiple contacts within the college and this is done to make sure that I am meeting target.
My employer/training manager contacts me and other apprentices when needed for reviews and has a policy where we are able to discuss anything we feel is not right or unfair whenever it may arise.
The salary for an apprentice is good and I am earning a descent amount but at the same time I still have to be very careful with my money throughout the month.
There are constant opportunities outside work, these can include football, charity work, helping to get younger kids interested in engineering and many other activities.
Yes
Selex is a great place to work and gives a secure job for many years, which is valued. The salary (First Year)is not the best but the support, involvement and tuition that is given is at the very top of the standard.
Don't expect to not work, even in first year. It is good work and it does make an impact within the company and makes you feel valued.
