My role involves manufacturing prototype parts for one off jobs. This includes using both conventional machines, CNC machines and general hand fitting skills to manufacture parts to a high standard and specification.
I have learned new skills in machining and fitting but also in reading technical drawings and problem solving as this is a key part of my day-to-day role.
I especially enjoy the programme and enjoy the new challenges I'm faced with every day.
Yes, I feel valued as the team I work with are always vey busy supplying priority parts throughout the business and without us the company couldn't function as efficiently.
The programme is very well structured with a rotation of placements to see you round each department to give a good idea of how the business works whilst gaining enough experience to complete the SVQ evidence logs.
Support is always present from either my training manager who coordinates all the apprentices on a day-to-day basis, my line manager who helps me with my own day-to-day challenges or my colleagues who can help me with any difficult situations I come across that I have not seen before.
My employer does supply regular support when it comes to anything preventing me from continuing with the work at hand. Anything preventing me from completing my tasks will be taken care of by my employer quickly.
The salary is a very good salary to work on and cannot be faulted when comparing it to salaries at other apprenticeships across the UK. It also increases in increments each year as long as performance is met to a company standard.
Yes, there are always chances to go and involve myself with school visits or open days to help promote the apprenticeship. I have also been lucky enough to have visited treatment centres for charities we raise funds for which was a fantastic experience to be a part of.
Yes
The training received at Selex is above the standard of many other apprenticeships out there and the overall experience is very enjoyable. The aspect of continuous learning in college and work is very present at Selex.
To have a natural enjoyment for engineering and new technology and to be yourself as there is a large variety in the type of people who work here and nobody would be discriminated against for any reason.
