To be able to take apart and refit parts of cars efficiently, communicate to colleagues well, attention to detail, helping out wherever else I can. Meetings with managers/colleagues about upcoming jobs, self evaluated health and safety checks, MOVE program, Green Goblin volunteering, meet customers exclusively high demands, keep on top of emails and training.
Yes, communication when it is critical, taking apart and refitting all components of cars, working efficiently, organisation, time management, confidence, helping others, compromising, managing other people, greater responsibilities, meeting deadlines, asking for help when necessary, admitting when I have done wrong for the greater good of the company, developing social skills with other colleagues in a professional manner.
I love my work, my working environment and my other colleagues. I wish to go as far as I can within Rolls-Royce, using my apprenticeship as a foot into the door of the business. I will use this time to network, discover all aspects of the business and make a positive name for myself and impact on the business.
The start was a little slow with no plan that was particularly set in stone. Although I met line managers within the area I would be working in, I didn't have regular meetings with them so always felt quite distant from them. Often they were too busy which is fair enough but the communication between them, and managers below them to let them know what I should be doing, when and where I should be was not there. Most of the time I was in the dark however I feel like myself and a few other apprentices were able to have initiative and find a productive use of our time, still meeting and exceeding standards of other colleagues and managers.
Whenever I asked for support, I was able to get some to some degree. Sometimes things would get lost in communication (which is bound to happen with a business the size of BMW/RR), and other times support would be provided instantly with several different options.
Whenever I may feel like it, I can message my training provider and they will endeavor to support me to the best of their ability with any concerns I may have and update me as soon as possible.
I can confidently take apart and refit most components of a car (I am still learning and training). When I am confused, I am able to communicate this to a manager and then they can provide support when needed. This is thanks to the time I have spent over at the Thatcham Research Development Centre and the time I have spent in the Rolls-Royce fleet workshop.
There are all sorts of extra-curricular activities to get involved at within Rolls-Royce. I feel very lucky to have this privilege. I attend local school events, helping talk about my apprenticeship, interviews and even helping with an after school club where we make go-karts for a local event. As apprentices we put on our own social events quite often and sometimes the company have some we can go to as well. I have participated in a few charity events, sports events, and a few professional networking events. I sometimes feel that I have been in the right place in the right time to attend these networking events and would like more presented to me directly in the future to develop my career but overall these extra-curricular activities are offered to us a lot.
Yes
I feel like it would provide them with a fantastic opportunity like no other. There are so many potential doors to be opened, the pay is decent, the work is fun, interesting and stimulating and then they would also be living closer to me =]
Always try to be your best, authentic-self. Be honest, open, communicate well, stay prepared, apply yourself/work hard, be helpful, and enjoy the time you have.
