  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • As a network engineer I am dealing with issues that are related to the physical side of the network, problem solving and helping to maintain the service we provide to all customers.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have come from a trading background, however with Virgin Media O2 I have been given great support and training to enhance my overall skills and knowledge of becoming a network engineer.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • There are two roles to the network engineer, the hands on side which I feel most comfortable with and the virtual side which is very interesting. I am really enjoying my learning experience so far even though it is a lot to learn.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I feel that there could be more structure and better acknowledgement of the work I do on a day to day basis compared to the course work I do for the Level 4 network engineer with Estio.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Virgin Media O2 as an employer have be amazing from the start, I have felt supported and given plenty opportunities to improve my skills. There as so many support systems in place, ranging from work to mental health and well being outlets.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I have 3 days per month which are tutor lead lessons, also there are drop in sessions for anyone who may need extra support or for reassurance. I am also able to contact my tutor and assessor if I need further support.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel that the course work and job are different, however I know they are related in networking and it will provide me the skills for when I want to move forward into more specialist area's in the future.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • VIrgin Media O2 are AMAZING at providing opportunities across a whole spectrum of area's, health and well being, specialist courses, meet ups virtually and face to face. They're always coming up with new idea's and innovations.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I love my role and am excited about becoming a network engineer, but also Virgin Media O2 as a whole offer so much security and benefits which makes me feel happy and wanted in my role. Also the team I work in is fantastic.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Virgin Media O2?
  • Go online and browse the website, been inquisitive and find answers to the questions you have. There is so many areas I didn't even realise where part of the company. Gather as much information about the role you are applying for and bring your own values too.
