  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

    8/10

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Developed confidence, leadership & communication skills. Learnt a lot about the UK's (and international) tax system beyond purely corporation tax

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Good variety of work - great opportunity to be able to work in a combined tax advisory and compliance team as it provides good experience to be able to build a base of knowledge.

    9/10

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Very structured - exams are spread across the four years of the programme as a school leaver (three years for a graduate). Central learning & development team coordinate with the training provider to arrange for the study leave and tuition courses.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Support from local team is great - can be difficult communicating with central functions sometimes but think this is often the case in any large corporate.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • First intuition are brilliant - easy to contact, (on the whole) really good tutors and they put on extra revision sessions and pre exam webinars which are really valuable.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The ACA is not super tax focussed but it is really useful to have an understanding and awareness of the wider accounting and business issues our clients are facing - also keeps doors open post qualification. The BPT and TC papers at the professional level are very relevant to my role.

    9/10

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I organise a lot of the team socials. The office is growing which means there are a lot of new associates. there's also local student societies (under the ICAEW) which host events to meet others training at firms across the region.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Evelyn Partners to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Evelyn Partners has a good balance between being a sizeable top 10 growing firm (having decent sized clients) whilst still maintaining a personal feel when working day to day in the team - it is also not that common for a firm of this size to have a combined advisory and compliance team which allows you to gain a far wider breadth of experience whilst training.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Evelyn Partners?
  • Look over the firm's core values and what sets Evelyn Partners apart. Have an awareness of the current UK tax system (don't need to know much) and what is influencing the changes being made within it.
