  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Opening the surgery room and the decontamination room following IPC system. Assisting the dentist in the surgery. Stocking up the surgery and cleaning instruments. Assisting at the reception desk when there is staff shortage.

    6/10

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Picked up new skills working in both the clinical and administrative areas. Self-taught.

    8/10

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I didn't enjoy the apprenticeship at this workplace. No permanent PM, Lead Nurse or mentor. No communication, no guidance or training. I have to teach myself or ask the dentist as I worked along. Lead Receptionist thought she had the authority to tell me to be on the desk instead of the surgery room. And I refused.

    2/10

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • No structure for apprentices or trainees at this practice.

    1/10

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Not at all. No teamwork either. Instead, you get reported and into documented meetings for doing the right thing.

    1/10

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Definitely a lot more than the employer.

    9/10

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I wouldn't have known that I have picked up the incorrect skills if there were no placement observations. The training provider has really helped me perform better in my role.

    10/10

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Nothing. Everyone refused any social activities which broke down the team work, communication, and spirit.

    1/10

  • 9a. Would you recommend Bupa to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I believe it's only this Bupa branch that had this poor training and staffing. Trainees of other Bupa branches had better experience than I did.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Bupa?
  • Ask in the job interview about staff turnover. Stay away if they say high.
