My job on a day to day basis varies on where in the company I am positioned. Every month I have a different placement where I am given jobs relevant to the department I am working in. This could be Manufacturing, Procurement, or Engineering.
Throughout my apprenticeship I have improved on my time keeping and prioritising skills. This is because of the responsibilities I am faced with every day. I also have learnt leadership skill and how to work as a team to complete a project.
The main thing I enjoy about my apprenticeship is that the work you are given is so varied and challenging. You never what the next day will bring and you get to work alongside experienced people that help you along the way.
I feel very valued by Selex from how the implement you with in the company. You learnt he job along side someone else while doing it. You are trusted with the responsibility of getting fully involved in the projects and deal with real problems. Also awards are given out for those who show exceptional involvement and quality work.
From starting my apprenticeship the organisation and structure of it was not all completely there. It did take some time for the ball to start rolling. However once structure was put in place like a placement plan I was going to different departments around the business and had reviews the track my overall apprenticeship progress.
MY training provider was PROCAT. I did an NVQ and BTEC in general engineering. Throughout both courses I got sufficient support on what to do, how to do it, and how to sort out the problems. There was times when support was quite hard to get but actions were put in place to combat this.
Within the company you are given plenty of support from your placement manager and your mentor if you have one. They will always try and help you solve problems and help you achieve business goals you might have.
The salary is very competitive against other companies and compared to my costs they are fairly generous. I am able to live very comfortably on the wage I'm on.
Outside of work we have the opportunity to go to various different event ran by the company and charities linked to the company. The main event is a robotics event where we help school children to make and compete a robot. Also we have many event throughout the year to help raise money for charities such as Combat Stress.
Yes
You can earn while you learn in an environment that is friendly, supportive, and challenging. You get the chance to learn many different skills in many different job roles to find what one suits you best.
My advice for anyone applying to Selex is show how enthusiastic and interested in the job you are. You also what to show how well you can learn and that you have the attitude to learn. Past experiences are very helpful to talk about in the interviews to show you are able to perform tasks.
