  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role day to day ranges from being on the tills or self checkout to helping on the shop floor with ambient, produce, long and short life and freezer. This is basically the role of a normal store assistant however, I also have meetings and have management experience and opportunities brought to me to help me progress with my apprenticeship.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Obviously skills I have learnt are things such as how to put out certain items but also there are other things such helping my confidence boost by being in a work place along with time management. One of the main things though is being able to manage situations now and being aware of what needs doing and how to arrange and organise so other staff can also help.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my programme as it’s been a good start in my work life, there has been a good work life balance and the pay is good for an apprenticeship which also helps as I can do things without having to worry about future pay days.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My structure programme is organised however I was confused at first as I have to be the “middle man” inside it by getting dates of meetings from the apprenticeship provider then having to speak to managers about the dates and meetings then having to adjust them and so on, also finding time to be consistent with the learning is difficult as the shop is busy so I do have to be on the shop floor but we are managing that well considering the circumstances.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It helps as I have to revise stuff such as customer service which is huge in supermarket and stuff like that really helps me improve in my job.
