My current role is focused on the IT experience for our staff internally. Therefore, I work on various hardware/mobile projects, IT escalations, meeting room technology, and so much more on a daily basis. I've also worked in 3 other roles during my apprenticeship so have gained a lot of essential knowledge throughout my apprenticeship
I've learnt so many new skills throughout my apprenticeship. The main of these is project management as I've had to lead many different projects throughout my rotations, and stakeholder management is another skill I've developed as I've had to keep stakeholder expectations realistic throughout many projects.
The programme is absolutely fantastic as there is many experiences you can partake in, and so many areas to explore within Unilever. They are also really flexible with your rotations so as long as you speak to the correct people, you can work in departments which interest you and test your skills.
The programme is really well structured internally with plenty of support available for apprentices whenever this is needed. The Training Provider hasn't been as good though as they've been really unorganised by having clashing lectures and poor communication, but the Unilever team have dealt with this really well.
The employee has been so supportive throughout my apprenticeship, and therefore I'm looking for a permanent role within the business. I have weekly catch ups with my manager where I can discuss work related topics, and a weekly session with my career sponsor who has been responsible for my development over the past 3 years at work and university.
The training provider has been really unorganised with sudden changes to lecture times, lecturers not being in the classroom, and timetables having clashing lectures. It's also been really difficult to get hold of the University with them sometimes taking multiple days to reply to emails, and our call every 3 months not always going ahead as scheduled.
Throughout my time at university I do feel like I've developed lots of key IT skills such as project management, and IT consultancy skills which allow me to perform better in the workplace. The content on the University course is really good, and definitely has been challenging at times which is good.
I have played 6 a side with work in the past but that now clashes with my study day, although it was really good fun and helped me get to know people I wouldn't work with on a daily basis. There is plenty of social activities in the office as well which I've attended throughout my apprenticeship.
Yes
Working at Unilever is a really good place to work with a great workforce, and lots of things to dig deep into. There's so many areas within the business, meaning you'll always find something you're passionate about if you connect with the right people. The work life balance is also great in any role.
Make sure to be yourself and explain why you'd be in interested in the role you're applying for. Make sure you find something you're passionate about within your application and link that to Unilever as it will show what skills you can bring to the job over other candidates.
