My role is to monitor claims made on Insurance policies and oversee them from start to finish. A typical day involves actioning claims, reviewing files, sending emails and attending meetings. I deal with mostly Landlord and tenant claims where a tenant has failed to pay rent and so I attempt to obtain recovery from debtors.
I have learnt skills such as language when sending emails, how to use IT systems such as Word, Excel Power PDF, outlook, Adobe and many more. I have also learnt how to effectively communicate in a professional setting. Furthermore, I have developed skills such as working in a team, and how to manage and prioritise multiple different tasks. I have also gained valuable knowledge of the Insurance industry.
I absolutely love my job and the work I do. From sending emails to actioning claims, every day is different and I enjoy every second of it. The studying side I struggle more with, but I definitely still enjoy it nonetheless, and I would definitely recommend the programme to anyone.
My programme is very organised and structured - I am allocated one day per week where I do not have to log onto work and I can focus entirely on studying. My study days usually fall on a day where I have a lesson. The only issue is that the day if the lessons changes on a weekly basis, which can sometimes lead to scheduling issues.
I receive a significant amount of support from Kennedys - I have at least one call with a senior member of my team every week without fail. I also have team meetings with my supervisor every week where I am able to raise any concerns. My employers are exceedingly approachable and I can have no complaints.
I am allocated one day per week where I am able to focus entirely on my studies. I have regular catch ups with members of my team where my studies are discussed and I am given the opportunity it seek support if I need it. They provide me with excellent experience which I can always connect with my studies.
Currently I am yet to study the claims handling aspect, as most of my studies have been in relation to the general and broader insurance market. However, this still provides me with excellent context and knowledge in my role, which will only be enhanced once I start studying the claims handling side of the course.
My work holds what we call a 'Family Day' once every few months which is where all of the claims handlers from the wider firm have to travel into the office, which allows me to network effectively and meet new people. Furthermore, we have multiple events a year, for example at Christmas, where we have a sit-down meal and can get to know each other outside of work.
Yes
Because from day one of my job I have only had a positive experience, and I have felt incredibly welcome by every single person I have met. In addition to this, the firm is global and provides so many incredible opportunities to gain more knowledge and increase the standard of work. There really is no limits to the possibilities provided by Kennedys, and I would recommend it to anyone.
I would say that be prepared to always work your hardest and be expected to go out of your comfort zone. The nature at Kennedys is very much a case of pushing yourself to be the best you can be, and to always be prepared for days full of learning and to reach your full potential.
