Commercial management day to day activities include: assessing works, creating interim payment certificates, change control and assisting with monthly reporting.
I have learnt many technical skills relating to my role around managing money within a construction project. Also many skills relating to construction technologies and their application in a project. I have also greatly developed skills in communication and management.
I find it very enjoyable as my work is challenging but with support always available. The people here are all great, and I get the chance to be involved with building things which I have always enjoyed.
The program is well structured on the work side of things, however the interaction between the work and university could be improved a lot. Many topics are covered more than once by both sides so you end up being given the same information half a dozen times occasionally. Also the instruction on how to complete all the apprenticeship standards and logging is not covered very well and is still difficult to understand.
My employer gives me a high level of support that I am happy with. My work has been progressively built up to ensure I can handle it which has allowed me time to learn skills properly. If I need it there is always help available from others on my project or my manager.
Support from my training provider is there, but could be greatly improved. Better integration with work could help.
So far it hasn't been much help as the content is quite general and related to a different section of the construction industry to what I am doing at work. I think this will improve as the modules become more specialised.
Yes there is many activities throughout the year to get involved in.
Yes
It's a great company with lots of opportunities. The people are great and the work we do is exciting.
The interview process takes some time so be prepared for that. Read up about the role you are applying to so you have some general knowledge and aren't going in blind.
