I am currently working on HS2 Sub Lot 8 in the role of Assistant Project Manager. Since starting the role, I have tracked the Issue for Construction Drawings, managed the EWN process and assisted the Senior Project Managers with a range of ad-hoc tasks.
I have developed my time management skills. With the project being so fast paced, I have quickly adapted how I approach tasks. I have also developed skills in chairing meetings through senior members of the team providing advice and feedback.
The programme itself is interesting but can also be irritating at times. There has been several delays on the course, poor marking, late notice workshops and in some instances it has felt like the lecturer has just been trying to cover the time allocated.
I would say it is poorly organised. My line manger has still not been updated, the invitations to workshops for a Monday morning are sometimes sent out over the weekend, there doesn't seem to be much structure to the lectures and the lecturer and day of lectures can change regularly.
Mott MacDonald has provided a lot of support. They have quickly raised any issues I have had and also gone the extra mile in order to facilitate my education.
My skills coach has been extremely helpful throughout the process and also very reliable.
I have learnt a lot through the training which I have been implementing on project work.
There are many activities available with myself also organising several since starting with Mott MacDonald.
Yes
I have already recommended it to many friends due to the 'family' like atmosphere at work and the support and encouragement received in the work place.
I would say to prepare to learn a lot about their intended role and to be open to networking and socialising as it plays a huge part in life at Mott MacDonald.
