I am a CNC machinist. within my role i am expected to set up machines, set the tools and load the program to the machine. i must then run the machine making sure nothing goes wrong. After its completed it will then need inspect it to make sure its correct.
I have learnt many new skills such as how to run a convention lathe and milling machine. I have learnt how to run cnc milling machines and how to understand and write programs. I have also gained lots of experience around engineering
I enjoy my program as its diverse and you arent stuck in one building for more than 6 months. The work i do is very rewarding and gives a big sense of contentment.
The programme is very structured with the first year in the training school learning skills and then for the next 3 years you are out on sections for 6 months at a time where you develop your knowledge. Communication between people could be better.
I receive lot of support from my employer and if need be i can get help from lots of different people regarding problems in and outside of work.
I once again receive lots of support if i need and help is always there
Some things are more useful than others. All the specialisation stuff regarding milling comes in very handy but other things such as OEI is less useful to my role.
There are some extra-curriculum things available such as UK skills. There aren't any sports teams but there are social activities and professional networking events
Yes
The company is a very good one where they look after you. The Pay is good and the community within work also create a good atmosphere to work in
Do your research for the programme you are applying for and make sure that you prepare well. There are many different rounds but don't be intimidated and give it your all.
