  • Typical activities during my working week include preparing for meetings, liaising with various internal and external stakeholders, delivering presentations and reporting on project progress.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed my self-confidence by regularly presenting project updates to various stakeholders. I have also developed my leadership and teamworking skills due to the dynamic nature of the projects which I am involved with.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I thoroughly enjoy my degree apprenticeship and cannot recommend the scheme and company enough. There are a lot of opportunities for career progression within the company and I feel well supported to achieve my goals.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My degree apprenticeship is very well structured; in term-time I work on my placement four days a week and attend university one day a week.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Apprentices have regular wellbeing and progress reviews with our managers to enable us to understand how we are progressing and to be able to ask for support if required. I would say I feel very well supported whilst working for my employer.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I also receive great levels of support from my training provider (The University of Cumbria) to work towards the completion of my degree. For example, if I ever require additional help on an assignment there are various ways I can obtain this, such as emailing a tutor.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I am frequently able to draw links between my workplace tasks and university studies. This has enabled me to have a greater understanding of both elements and therefore be able to perform better on both sides.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I have been fortunate enough to attend a professional body conference, where I was able to network with other individuals who work within the same function of project management. The company also frequently offers opportunities for other extra-curricular activities which are available, dependant on personal interests and aspirations.

  • Yes

  • I feel proud to work for BAE Systems and I am passionate about the work the company produces and the values which it stands for. The strong culture of the company also adds to my positive experience and I thoroughly enjoy being part of some of our amazing and exciting projects.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
  • Ensure that you take time to research what your role will entail, alongside some information about the company and the projects which are being delivered. Explain the motivation for you applying to the company and highlight why you think your experience makes you right for the role. Good luck!
