Day 1: intro to office, explanation of how Pearson is divided and run. Main focus on this day was Vocational qualifications, and working on finalising projects with upcoming deadlines (exam season coming up). Day 2: Attend meetings on progress of VQ's , finish a data logging task from the other day and meet with data analyst to discuss ways of which data can be presented for greater understanding of progress within workgroups. Day 3: meet manager of early careers where I have details of different degree apprenticeships and progression routes into careers as a young person. I sit in on a call with an apprentice of the year candidate. I am given the tasks of giving feedback on the internship and apprenticeship sections of the Pearson website. I am then given an aptitude test. I also have the opportunity to meet a member of the governmental relations sector of the company where we discuss his job role and connections which he has with the UK government. Day 4: learn about the international segment of the company, and am tasked throughout the day to log dates about the different countries Pearson is opperating in. I end up learning about and utilising AI to do so, converting data spread out online into easily accessible excel sheets which can be shared and used through Pearsons work systems. I also meet with the data analyst team to discuss ways of sharing data and how to convert raw data points into presentable graphs.
I learnt different computer skills, especially in the use of AI on the last day. I gained a greater understanding of excel, tableu and their uses in sharing data amongst colleagues. I learnt how to work as part of a team in an office, an pick up on specialist terminology used within the company. I learnt how to interact with others in an office workplace environment
I definitely enjoyed my work experience very much. Everyone was incredibly friendly and explained to me anything which was not already clear. I was given a good mix of differing experiences within the company, meeting different people with different jobs. I personally would have liked to understand the financial and governmental relations sides of the business more but I definitely experienced a great variation of job types in which I was never too bored!
Very well, I had a schedule where I was always having something to do.
I learnt a lot, most people only come in once or twice a week but everyone is very friendly with each other when they are in. There is significant amounts of inter-connectivity between departments and groups within the company, which is why having the ability to effectively share data on progress is so important. It was also my first time experiencing an office environment so it was a very eye-opening experience.
Not much really, but reassured to me that an office environment is not the worst, so long as you have a nice team surrounding you.
No.
I met plenty of people and my email I have the ability to contact the company if necessary in the future. The opportunity was definitely there.
Yes
It seems like a genuinely nice environment to work in and there are a wide variety of job types to suit any interests a friend might have.
