  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Resolving tickets, overseeing IT Projects, communicating with stakeholders.

    4/10

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes, I can confidently speak about Networks, Virtualisation, Cloud Computing, Backups, Operating Systems, Computer Security, Cultural Awareness, Root Cause Problem Solving and Documentation.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoyed my programme with Baltic Apprenticeships very much, not so much my employer. My manager made false promises relating to IT Equipment for myself as well as told me I could re-negotiate my salary after a certain date, only to rescind this statement later.

    5/10

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Very well organised. It was broken up in to two day chunks taught every month, which I completed remotely at home. The EPA preparation was thorough and well-organised. However, my employer manager often promised time to work on apprenticeship work only to rescind the promise later.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer made broken promises and was not able to answer technical questions or unwilling to go out of his way to help me with something. He often assumed to know how to fix something without listening to the full story and took credit for my achievments.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Baltic were exceptional and were receptive and willing to help whenever I needed it. If I emailed my assessor I could expect a reply promptly and any queries or worries I had were thoroughly worked through.

    10/10

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I can now understand the fundamentals of a whole range of IT related topics, which allows me to diagnose and troubleshoot issues to a high standard.

    10/10

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • My manger refused to allow me to engage in any third-party event, such as networking. However, there are non-IT related activities to get involved in, such as playing in sports teams, though this is a rare occurrence.

    3/10

  • 9a. Would you recommend Wigston Academies Trust to a friend?
  • No

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend Baltic but not WAT. They dangle promises in front of you without the intent to fulfill them in order to get the most out of you for as little as possible. You are overworked and your concerns are met with false apologies and a promise that things will improve, which are quickly rescinded as the manger cannot be bothered.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Wigston Academies Trust?
  • Not worth it unless you want to move forward by selling yourself to the higher-ups in order to get promoted. No promise of promotion through hard work alone.
