Since starting my apprenticeship at Travis Perkins i have delved into the Tool Hire industry. An intimidating place to be with little previous experience in the industry. Hiring all kinds of equipment to every sector in the construction industry. Maintaining/repairing equipment ensuring good performance and safety.
I now have a broad understanding of how to repair equipment electrical and fuel which has been a very enjoyable part of the course. I can now diagnose lots of issue confidently and when i don't know i have a team around me which can help. No two days are the same and i don't think i will ever stop learning in this industry.
Learning about the wide range of equipment available to us and having a better understanding of there purpose and functionality has been enjoyable and has built my confidence in this role.
My course was structured and broken down into achievable goals to keep me on track. With a lot of support from my coach Matt i easily finished the course on time within my work house despite challenges along the way.
I have received lots of support from Travis Perkins from workshop days to support form my team in branch and other branches. Everyone in the business is very supportive and have a wealth of knowledge between them.
my tutor has been with me every step of the apprenticeship. We have had monthly catch ups to keep me on track and support me with any topics i have questions for. The guidance from him readied me for the exams including my Level 2 Maths and English.
The tool hire industry is very vast and intimidating when you start. The course has given me the knowledge to tackle the challenges with a confident understanding of the processes. This ensure that i am able to provide the best service possible.
We have had a days out to raise money for charity or team building. We climbed Snowdon for McMillan and had a regional 5 aside football tournament. We didnt fare well in the football tournament but i can't blame Matt for that :D
Yes
Great business to progress in. It does have a big family feel to it. Treat their staff well.
My advice for anyone joining Travis Perkins would be to go at it open minded and take advantage off all the training and benefits they offer. With the right attitude you will do very well and progress to where ever you aspire to in your career.
