As an RBS apprentice I was placed in a business administration role. My department was responsible for the access administration for employees of RBS, so when they joined the bank, moved departments and left the bank we managed their system/computer access
Yes, I have learnt lots of skills, mainly confidence, time keeping, professionalism in the workplace and how to approach senior members of staff.
I have thorougly enjoyed my programme, without it I would not have gained the valuable experience I have, and this apprenitceship has allowed me to progress my career within RBS at Coutts.
To some extend I do feel valued, on my apprenictship I was treated as an employee and a member of the team from day one, and I was never made to feel unwelcomed.
There has been ups and downs, at the start my programme was structured, but during the end of my apprenticeship scheme my assessor left which meant I was without an assessor for a few months.
At the start, a lot. As I said my assesor left BPP, and when he left that meant I was without someone to assist me. Also my writing material (task books) were very vague and not specific to my programe meaning I could not complete some of them.
A lot, my employer has assisted and helped me throughout my programme, allowing me time out of the office to attend training days and study leave etc.
Baring in mind how low the minimum wage is for apprenticeships, RBS pays well above that, I was on the same pay bands as my collegues so I was paid as if I were a full time employee. In comparrison to other banks that do apprenitcehips, RBS pays well above them.
Yes, my old team used to get together for social events and community investment days (charitable days) to help give something back, it also aided team bonding.
Yes
Even though their Reputation is not that great, they are positive in trying to rectify that, our CEO has a clear statement and vision that is realistic and his management team helps drive that. I enjoy working for RBS and would reconmend it to anyone wanting a successful career.
RBS hires people based on skills/enthusiasm, not just age. I would tell someone who is applying to answer all questions honestly, and I would advise them to make them stand out by writing something different. For example if you get a face to face interview, be preparred with facts on RBS, create a 3 month plan on what you hope to achieve in your first 3 months like you already have been offered the job, and be confident!
