  • 1. Please give an overview of what your work experience involved:
  • We covered many topics of Cisco, whilst adapting a hybrid working style. We covered departments from Sales all the way to IT Infrastructure, all whilst getting valuable information about how Cisco is a supportive and comforting workplace. We were also given many valuable pieces of information which could be used on CVs and job applications into varying careers in the computing industry.

  • 2. What training and skills development did you learn from your work experience?
  • I learnt how to talk confidently in front of people, as we gave presentations of a prompt set at the start of the week. I also learnt many things that if I did not attend this experience I would have never got to learn, such as Networking and Marketing in a B2B industry!

  • 3. To what extent did you enjoy your work experience?
  • I enjoyed this work experience so much! Being welcomed so warmly by Sam Moylan-Heydt put me at ease and made me very excited for the week ahead of me. Asking the first question in the Q&A, being comforted by the lovely Cisco staff made me realise I am capable of so much more!

  • 4. How well organised was your work experience?
  • It was incredibly structured, with a timetable being published as well as a detailed itinerary for each day as we arrived, whether it be virtual or physical. Under the precise observation of Melissa Robinson, the sessions felt almost as if we were in the workplace!

  • 5. How much did you learn about the company culture and what it would be like to work there?
  • I learnt a lot about the company culture, as not only did they give talks about what they were doing currently for their staff, but also what they were doing in the future, even asking us if we wanted to suggest anything!

  • It has consolidated my ideas on the technical field and has really pushed me to think about what specialty I would like to investigate in the future!

  • 7. Were you paid or reimbursed for this experience?
  • We were not - which although dissappointed me, they explained that if they were to do this, it would not be feasible as they would not be able to reimburse cost of fuel if driving.

  • 8. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees?
  • There were loads! Every session that I attended I was given the oppurtunity to write down their name for future reference!

  • 9a. Would you recommend Cisco to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • It feels like one of the jobs that you could get into, but feel like you are doing a hobby! It is so welcoming and calm at Cisco!

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Cisco?
  • Be yourself! The worst thing you can do is pretend you are something that you are not!
