  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work in the baby room area of the nursery, looking after babies aged between 12 weeks to 18 months. I help support the room lead/colleagues with the day to day care of the babies; feeding, sleeps, support in mealtime/snack feeds, nappy changing and planning activities for their age group.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt how to use the bottle machine and the day to day running of the room, with regards to when each baby has a feed, sleep, nappy change and what they need support on in relation to the EYFS. I have developed my time management and being able to plan activities around babies individual needs.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The programme has help me gain a better understanding of how Safeguarding is fundamental in looking after children and the procedures that are in place for the welfare of the children in our care.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is very well structured. it is easy to understand where to find resources on Onefile and how to complete tasks.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • If I ask a question or need support then it is given. However, it is very one sided. My employers struggle to allow me time I am entitled to during work hours, to do apprentice related work. To date, I have currently not been given anytime during works hours. My employers do not hold any type of meeting with me or ask how I am doing.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive a great deal of support from the training provider. My tutor always responds to emails in a reasonable time. My tutor provides me with the confidence to completed my discussions.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It helps me perform better by knowing polices and procedures that put the welfare of the children at the forefront. I have gained a greater understanding on how the EYFS structure supports each child individually.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • It is a friendly nursery, where staff look after each child to a high standard. We promote diversity and equality and support children with special educational needs.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Footsteps nursery?
  • Take all opportunities regarding qualifications to allow you to develop you understanding of the childcare sector.
