Project Controller working within a R&D project of FCAS (Future Combat Air Systems). I work to support the project manager for the project. On a day to day basis this can be very varied, involving issuing project documents and liasing with our customer. It also invloves ensuring all internal reporting information is available and prepared for presentation.
I have learnt how to manage my time and organise my workload efficiently. I have learnt how to liase with a customer appropriatley and manage stakeholder expectations.
I enjoy my apprenticeship due to the variety of roles offered on the scheme and the intereting variety of day to day work that is undertaken.
I feel apprentices are made to feel very valued by the company. Many managers and senior directors started out as apprentices or graduates. So it is evident that the company values people who have been on these kind of schemes.
The programme is well strucutured. The blend of in work learning and time at college works well to help me develop practical and theoretical knowledge.
Support from college is good but with some room for improvement. Tutors are always available to contact, but I feel sometimes that college is not as organised as it could be.
Support from our employer is excellent. Are questions and comments are always listened to. BAE is always willing to accomodate our preferences for which roles we want to have placements in.
Our salary package is excellent for people of our age / experience. It is particularly high when considering BAE is paying for our training and qualifications.
There are opportunities to be involved in a numeber of schemes or groups. I am a STEM ambassador, and help promote the value of STEM subjects at schools.
Yes
The company provides a huge scope of opportunity for development. There is a great deal of opportunity to travel and experience different business units.
Be confident in all interviews and communication with the business. Sell yourself, there are a significant number of applicants per place, do not be modest about your achievements and what makes you stand out. Make sure you take time to answer the questions they ask you fully and accurately. Ask them to repeat the question, or ask to come back to it later if you are unsure. This will look much better than saying you dont know an answer.
