  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My official role is called 'Officer Development Lead'. I am responsible for the development of security officers in my region to enhance/support them with all the required trainings for them to do their job effectively, and in line with the company's standard. I pay special focus on new starters and also existing officers that need support. I act on regular feedback received from store managers, regarding officer performance, in the form of scorecards and work with the respective officers on areas they need improvements on. I also take on management roles and expected to look after operational matters in the absence of my Line manager, who is the zonal manager.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoyed the interactive nature in which the workshops were conducted. By giving all apprentices a fair chance to contribute during workshops, this directly improved my confidence in speaking to people, which I am yielding the benefits in my current role.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • At the beginning of the programme, I wasn't sure of the direction of the programme itself. however, with the support of my experienced work coach, it didn't take long for me to see clearly how well organised the programme was and the desired goals set out. It was very well organised.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • From the beginning of the programme, my employer had assigned me a senior manager that would go on to be my sponsor throughout the programme. I did receive a great deal of support from my employer. I had one study-day a week to focus on my programme. I had opportunities to shadow senior managers and my sponsor made sure I get all the support needed to successfully complete all my tasks and assignments.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My qualification has made me perform better and with less pressure in my current role. I am in a better position to deal with people and approach new challenges in a more organised manner. I make use of prioritisation techniques like Eisenhower's to manage work load.
