My role as a quantity Surveying apprentice involves: creating cost estimates, shadowing team meetings, understanding legal contracts, conduction mathematical checks, analysing drawing plans, attending network events and expanding my historical knowledge about the palaces. I work 4 days a week in the office then 1 day is spent at University where at the end of my course I will receive my relevant degree. As an apprentice at HRP you are treated with respect and trust; having the opportunity to work independently on projects.
Absolutely! My apprenticeship has developed both my behavioural skills as well as my theoretical knowledge within construction and history. An apprenticeship will continuously develop your skills as you are always networking and becoming more independent with projects. I cannot fault the option of taking an apprenticeship over University!
I love my apprenticeship course.
Very organised! As an apprentice you are support by your colleagues within the office, your line manager guides you every day and at University I am guided by my monthly tutor. Historic Royal Palace has structured my apprenticeship programme extremely well and I feel confident with my progression plan within the company.
I receive support everyday from my employer and I feel confident that when I ask questions I will not be judged nor dismissed.
I receive good support from my university. If I have any concerns regarding my education my manager has direct contact with my training provider to raise issues. My training provider is happy to communicate with us students and help solve any probelms that we may possess.
I feel that my qualification has direct relevance to my work.
There are many opportunities for employees to participate in activities within the company. For example, the company has football and netball clubs and always has networking events to engage with directors and contractors.
Yes
My experience so far at Historic Royal Palaces, has been incredibly positive as I feel happy, supported and motivated within the workplace.
My advice would be to not feel intimated by the company’s name! You do not need any royal relations or connections to be hired the main attribute that employers look for is that you are authentic to yourself, you are motivated and are passionate to always learn more. The workplace is extremely happy and optimistic therefore, Historic Royal Palaces want to see that within you during the application stage.
