The maintenance and development of control systems. Problem solving is one of the biggest parts of the job.
Communication and team work are one of the biggest skills you have to have for this role and has been one of the skills I have developed. Others include competency in new systems and networking.
I really enjoy this program. It is a great way to get into the Industry and get a degree at the same time. Being involved in different types of tasks makes the job different and enjoyable every day.
This programme is well structured and provides learning in different areas to improve your understanding in the industry. Different placements will be provided so you can get experience in maintenance, electrical, coding etc.
If support is required it will be provided by the company. If you are struggling with a part of your course or are not understanding a task, anyone will be happy to help you with it.
The university offer sessions with course leaders to help you with certain aspects that you do not understand. You will have a review with a skills couch a few times a year. They will make sure you are staying up to date with your course modules.
Certain modules that they cover are required to make the degree an engineering degree (i.e. Engineering Maths) and some are specifically related to your role at your workplace. As you progress in your degree you will start to understand more at work.
When I started the apprenticeship, there was a number of events to get you to know the other apprentices starting that year. There is events throughout each month that you can attend that give you an insight into different aspects of the company and the area you work in.
