My role is to procure, distribute, and maintain IT hardware (mobile phones, laptops, printers, and PCs. I will interact with employees face to face or online to help fix their issues, as well as replace and repair damaged kit. I will also speak to external clients to gather quotes and manage payment processes.
I have learnt lots about how the company operates, the systems that they use, and the processes that are in place. My communication skills have naturally improved as I interact with clients and employees on a daily basis. My knowledge of computer hardware has also developed massively as I carry out my role each day.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my programme so far. SJP welcomed all the apprentices in very well and my colleagues immediately made me feel part of the team. My apprenticeship is exactly how I thought it would be and I am happy I chose this role.
My apprenticeship has been very well structured with my team already having a plan to integrate me into the role. Tasks had been put aside for me to get started so it meant I was doing things immediately. The apprenticeship induction was very informative and I felt ready to begin at the end of it.
The employer is constantly supporting me with regular apprentice meetings to check in with all of us and see how we're doing. The early careers team are always there to help and came to my meetings when I was enrolling for my college course.
I have been given a coach to help me navigate through the course which is extremely helpful as some things can be confusing. They will check up with me to make sure I am on the right track and set tasks for me to do that help with the qualification.
Some units on my qualification I have studied before, and some units aren't necessarily related to hardware. Despite this, my manager has arranged for me to join other teams for a week to gain experience in other fields and so I can meet criteria in my course.
There are many activities for you to get involved in, particularly related to the charitable foundation. My apprentice cohort has been tasked with organising an event to raise money for the foundation and we have regular meetings to plan this.
Yes
From start to finish, I always felt welcomed as an apprentice and there was plan in place to integrate us all smoothly. We will be constantly supported throughout the year and its clear to see a lot of effort is put into the apprentice programmes.
Be prepared to get involved. Between the job offer and starting my apprenticeship, there were lots of keep warm sessions where all the apprentices met up and got to know each other. Furthermore, all apprentice cohorts will do the charitable foundation events which will involve networking with different people throughout the company.
