My role involved auditing client projects, leading team meetings, conducting walkthroughs, preparing working documents, and ensuring audit accuracy. Daily tasks included coordinating with team members, managing priorities, and maintaining proactive communication to deliver high-quality outcomes.
I enhanced my technical knowledge through in-depth walkthroughs and analysis of financial statements. I also improved my ability to organize and prioritize tasks, fostered collaboration, and refined my communication skills by actively participating in team discussions and client interactions. These experiences helped me grow as a professional and contribute effectively to high-quality audit outcomes.
I found my programme enjoyable and fulfilling. I appreciate the opportunity to develop new skills and take on responsibilities. My proactive approach and positive attitude have been recognized, and collaborating with diverse teams adds to my satisfaction. The positive feedback from managers and colleagues further enhances my sense of accomplishment and enjoyment in the programme.
The programme is well-structured, which I really appreciated. It involves completing all parts of the professional work experience with clients for a specific period, followed by returning to university for ACA exams. During the four-month placements at PwC, I focus entirely on work, then shift to studying for exams. Placements occur in years 2, 3, and 4 of the programme.
The support level at PwC is excellent, especially since, as an associate, much of the work requires initial coaching. The team consistently encourages asking questions to ensure task understanding, facilitating daily learning and timely completion of assigned work.
There isn't much support from ICAEW beyond the free audit standards they provide, which is expected as it's integrated with the university. The university supplies all necessary resources, such as notes and exam questions, to prepare for exams, ensuring you pass or perform exceptionally well.
The structured programme, which combines professional work experience with academic study, allows me to apply theoretical knowledge in practical settings. The resources and support from the university, such as notes and exam questions, ensure I am well-prepared for exams, which in turn boosts my confidence and competence in my professional responsibilities. This integration of learning and practice helps me continuously improve and deliver high-quality outcomes in my role.
There is always something happening around the firm, especially on the networking side, but managing it can be challenging due to limited time. However, opportunities like promoting the programme to prospective students are always available. In Milton Keynes, we enjoyed fun activities such as the Escape Room and lunch with the audit team.
Yes
It's a great place to start your career, especially at a young age, working with like-minded people. You're truly investing in your future and reaping the rewards. The people are always helpful and supportive throughout the process, allowing you to get the best out of this programme with the intention of learning every day.
It's natural to feel nervous at the start due to a lack of audit knowledge, but I advise everyone to be confident. It's expected that you won't have prior knowledge, but believing in your abilities and being curious will help you succeed in this role and programme.
