As part of the scheme we went around different placements around the business in which meant that quarterly our day to day jobs changed however in all we were involved in all of the tasks that the teams undertake. Currently I am in the Design office creating the model for the HVAC on the new combat ship. I also go on ship trials for HVAC testing where required.
I have learnt many new skills with design and using new software to make the systems performance as high as possible. I have also developed my team skills and interaction skills
I thoroughly enjoy this programme and have never looked back at this decision. Always recommend this to my friends.
I am made to be part of the team straight away and being able to do the workload and the jobs full time staff undertake rather than been treated like a workhorse. I always get worthwhile tasks and when I was in a team which abused my experience of just making me photocopy and print documents I spoke to my line manager and they resolved this to give me the best experience.
The programme is structurely well as the first year you are at college full time and then the other years you are in placements in which are 3-6months each and these can be chosen. They are all looked after to ensure individuals rotate around placements.
When i require support, i get this immediately from my training provider who is more than helpful and will try and help with any issue. in placements i recieve support from everyone in the team to help me learn
when i require support this is given to me where possible
At first it was a struggle on the wage because i had to pay for rent since moving from Essex, however this was a good salary as a startign wage and it increases each year. Over time my outgoings has gone up and the salary is enough to meet my costs but after the apprenticeship our wage goes up further for a much greater amount to meet my costs much more easily
There are opportunities outside work to help with education in the public and attend career fairs and other local events. I am an education ambassador and also a STEM ambassador and am therefore invited to all opportunities,in which i am able to attend
Yes
The programme is well structured and helps you develop your skills and experience. BAE is an employee that looks after their employees and its a great place to work.
I would advise to push yourself because the business will give you the support to become the best you can and so take every opportunity they give you.
