I work as a Project Controller as part of the Project Control FOundation Scheme. Within my current role, I monitor spends and the progress of work across various contracts, identifying and reporting issues.
My IT skills have developed significantly by using nre toolsets as well as increasing my knowledge of existing programmes such as Microsoft Excell. My communication skills have improved through working with various types of people, along with my negotiation and conflict management techniques.
The programme is interesting, what is learnt in the univesrity part of the course applies directly to the roles within the business. I enjoy my current role a and the fact that you move placements every year means that you gain a wide bredth of knowledge and experience. With that experience you gain more confidence and can attempt more challenges, which I find highly satsfying.
BAE Systems highly values its apprentices and puts a lot of effort into ensuring that they gain the best experience out of the company. The roles within the scheme have you working as a professional Project Controller and so become a valued member of the team.
The programmes is very structured. You move placements yearly and the pay scale is also structured within the scheme so that pay raises occur consistently throughout.
The university course is good. It is more like a college than university however this does mean that the lecturers will provide you with a more one on one support.
The scheme leaders at BAE Systems are brilliant. They are very supportive and are there to ensure you are gaining the best experience possible from the company but also are that you are happy and comfortable within the roles.
This scheme is payed on a professional payscheme so we are very well payed. The pay covers all of my costs normally.
There are many social activities (charity events ect) to get involved in. Tthere are also football teams and other sports teams to get involved with.
