Business Trainee - Project Management. Rotations around various Project Management teams within BAE Systems varying in content eg. Risk Management, Project Controls, Quality Assurance, Planning, Governance etc.
Two seperate lists of BAE Systems and Association of Project Management competencies that will be covered during apprenticeship. Currently 66% of the way through APM competencies
Content of programme is enjoyable but is rigid in the rate of development that is possible. Flexibility is limited as to what level of work can be completed
Apprenticeship scheme is a great oppertunity to work at a large company. Environment is proffessional and rewarding. Sometimes feels impersonal and that you are simply low level resource as opposed to a developing young employee.
Programme is well organised and has defined deliverables. However regular assessment internally (which is linked to salary increases) has no formal criteria, changes constantly and is inconsistent in it's application.
Training provider is a high rated college that provides a good amount of support and exellent tuition. The systems in place for making content available and assessing work is very good.
Support recieved internally is good most of the time. Tends to be more reactive than active, but when it is needed then the level recieved is ample.
Salary given is competitive for Higher Apprenticeships. There are however inconsistencies between sections of BAE Systems that complete near identical apprenticeships. Discrepencies range between 14-35% during time on training programme.
There are numerous oppertunities to take on extra activities outside work. Apprentice/Graduate community is large and is supported and encouraged by the business.
Yes
The experience and qualification make the Higher Apprenticeship a good alternative to University. Opens up oppertunities to further career in a large company.
Do not expect the highest standard of organisation and support within the company. Benefits and enjoyment may not be found until apprentice scheme is complete.
