  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Preparing and checking accounts in line with HMRC requirements. Liaising with non-audit clients to find figures and make sure accounts are correct and accurate. Involves working both in the office and also on client-site and occasionally from home.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • My analytical and communicational skills have improved since begging the apprenticeship. Having to communicate with various people in different roles both within the company and with clients outside of the company. Ive began to learn a lot quicker than I used to and this is due to the fast pace of work/training.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • My programme is ideal and perfectly suited to me, I enjoy the balance of training and working, constantly applying the skills learnt in training into real-life scenarios. The workload is quite consistent and isn't easy but is deifinitely manageable and improves organisational skills.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My programme is very well organised as each exam or study period is booked for myself and added to my calandar, easy for me to view and manage and stay on top of. The studying is done at an ideal time so that I can apply the knowledge gained into work almost immediately after

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • When I began, I had a monthly check up for the first 4 months and this was ideal for both support and growing at work. I was able to say how I felt about my workload and ask if Id like to try something new or get involved in different types of work. Managers/supervisors constantly check up on me and ask how im getting on with work and also outside of the workplace.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My training provider has really good pages online that are easily accessible on laptop, phone. When studying towards exams I utilise these and it benefits me massively making the use out of further mock examinations. In terms of safeguarding/aside from work, they ask if any support is needed and are eager to help with any special requirements for exams/studying.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The skills and knowledge learnt in the exams/qualifications are extremely beneficial and relevant to my role. So far, nearly everything I have learnt via my training provider has been used and applied in my day to day role. Without the qualification with my training provider I would most likely struggle to carry out my role

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are many extra-curricular activities and social events to get involved with at work. Every few weeks there is a different networking event where we are given a chance to attend something different and network with colleagues over a drink. I do however, need to try and get more involved in sporting teams/events.

  • 9a. Would you recommend RSM to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • RSM has a massive focus on the staff and clients, and people in general. At RSM I have felt welcomed and been given everything necessary to grow both as a person and in my career. Everyone at RSM is very friendly and if you work hard you get treated very well

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to RSM?
  • When applying, in the earlier stages just use problem solving skills and look for the most logical answers in real life scenario type questions. If you get to an assessment centre, showcase your interest in the company and that you know about them and its not just another application, and dont try too hard to impress assesors as they are ultimately looking for someone to potentially work with in the future.
