  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work in Research & Development in the Ice Cream Category. During my apprenticeship I have experienced a variety of roles as working as Unilever offers the opportunity to rotate roles every September. My current role involves making products, completing measurements, managing projects, meetings but each day is very different!

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • The apprenticeship provides a great opportunity to gain technical knowledge as you work with and learn from industry professionals everyday. You also develop other skills such as your organisation, leadership and presentation skills to name a few.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The food programme is very interesting and it's great to work with fun products like ice cream and chocolate, and big brands like Ben & Jerrys and Magnum.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • You complete rotations every year which gives you exposure to new and different roles. You will have a buddy when you join to help you feel settled at and all the teams are used to having apprentices so they often have a good set of onboarding information to help you start in the new role.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Lots! Unilever are very generous with giving apprentices allocated time to complete your off the job university time. Also the site is so friendly and people are always happy to help you learn and feel welcome.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • NTU are very supportive through the apprenticeship. It has made uni an enjoyable process!

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • University gives a basis knowledge for things you work on in your role so the learning experience goes hand in hand. It also helps develop your research and writing skills through assignments. It's a very relevant scheme for the role.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There's lots! We have lots of clubs onsite like netball, crafts and football to name a few and a gym.

  • Yes

  • It's a warm, welcoming company and you get to work on interesting products.
