During a normal day, I would either attend site with a fellow colleague and complete various tasks such as MEP audits or completing additional works such as replacing or installing new systems. The days I am in the office I would complete college work and any other work such as meetings, reports, and CAD designs.
I have developed several new skills and developed and furthered my existing skills. Communication skills have especially improved this includes in person or via email. Other skills like problem solving and working in a team have also improved a lot. Also have taken a lot of responsibility already for projects for example writing several reports for clients and CAD designs that I have produced.
I enjoy it quite a lot and find the day to day work to be very engaging. Everyone I have met within the business has always been very friendly and helpful if I am in need of any support.
TB+A apprenticeship scheme is well structured as there has been a plan since I joined the business back in September 2023 with an introduction to meet my team and what to expect throughout the course and day to day work life. I have regular reviews, including Personal Development Review meetings which help me progress with my career.
As well as having a line manager that gives me a lot of support in the work place and with college, I was also assigned a mentor which has supported me loads over the 18 months I have been here. Both my manager and mentor like to stay in the loop with my workload and college to make sure I have a healthy balance between the too. We have weekly catch-ups to ensure all projects are being completed on time and if any support is required.
LSBTC (London South Bank Technical College) support has been ok as there has been several issues throughout the course. It took 1 year for me to receive a grade from a piece of coursework I submitted back in November 2023, also I have only had 1 review from the training provider where I should have 6 as there was issues with assigning me an assessor.
I feel like this qualification is well suited to my role as it allows me to have a great overall understanding of engineering as it covers building services this involves mechanical, electrical and public health therefore there is a large crossover between work and college.
There are several social and networking events that occur at work and through CIBSE which allows me to speak to multiple people and build relationships. There are also CPDs which are held weekly.
Yes
I would recommend Troup Bywaters + Anders to a friend because as an apprentice, all my colleagues go out of their way to help me proceed with my career and everyone works together which results a happy and healthy working environment. Also, during the 18 months I have been here I have visited several sites/buildings which has made most days different.
The advice I would give to others applying for Troup Bywaters + Anders is to research about the company as they have multiple awards which shows how good this organisation is. Also, when researching about TB+A it will show you how impressive their portfolio is.
