Higher Level Apprenticeship

Why did you choose your apprenticeship?

I chose my apprenticeship because in school I was super interested in sports coaching but wanted to explore another avenue within sports and thought sports commissioning sounded interesting.

What were you doing before your apprenticeship?

I was at university studying forensics and working part time as a swimming instructor. I unfortunately had to drop out due to access issues within the University and never finished my degree.

Did this encourage you to apply for a Channel 4 apprenticeship?

In some way yes, I applied for the sports commissioning role because I enjoy and love sports, but I also applied because I knew Channel 4 was ‘safe’ and that I wouldn’t face any barriers because I use a wheelchair.

What is the first thing you do when you get to work?

I grab a hot drink and then debrief with my manager about what’s to coming that week and then answer any emails that need my attention before joining in on meetings.

What is aspect of your role do you enjoy the most?

I really enjoy the meetings and learning about all the cool stuff that’s being commissioned for the TV. I also enjoy the conversations I’ve had with people from a wide range of different backgrounds.

What are your top tips for anyone working as a sports Commissioning apprentice?

Enjoy every day as it comes. Every single day will be different. Take every opportunity you are given. Most importantly have fun.
