What my role is:
As an apprentice in the field of project management, my role revolves around gaining hands-on experience and insight into the various aspects of overseeing and delivering projects. This includes assisting in project planning, communication, stakeholder management, and ensuring that timelines and budgets are adhered to. My responsibilities also involve collaborating with cross-functional teams and learning to use project management tools effectively.
What I've learnt so far:
In the course of my apprenticeship so far, I've acquired valuable skills in project scoping, resource allocation, and risk mitigation. I've gained insights into the significance of clear communication and efficient teamwork. Additionally, I've had the opportunity to understand the importance of Governance, as well as how to handle unforeseen challenges. Learning to navigate project management software and tools has also been an important part of enhancing my skillset.
What I'd tell someone wanting to join my apprenticeship:
For those aspiring to become a project manager apprentice, I would emphasize the importance of curiosity and a willingness to learn. The role demands effective communication skills, to interact with team members, stakeholders, and clients. Being able to identify risks and having a proactive attitude towards problem-solving is also as important. Lastly, I’ve found project managers must be open to feedback in order to grow personally and professionally.
