Degree Apprenticeship
My Apprenticeship has given me the opportunity to work with teams all over the UK
Currently in the first year of his Business Management Apprenticeship, Nicholas recently joined our Belfast office where he works in our Operate Northern Ireland business. As one of our apprentices, Nicholas has the chance to work with a variety of clients whilst also studying for his bachelor's degree at Ulster University.
“I’m really enjoying my role within PwC. I work with Business Operations, which involves facilitating client onboarding and completing risk checks.
One of the reasons why I chose the Degree Apprenticeship is that it gave me the opportunity to earn a salary while I study. The theory I learn at university is completely relevant to the tasks I complete within my role at PwC - it’s invaluable hands-on experience.”
Before joining us here at PwC, Nicholas wasn’t sure what to expect. Reflecting on his time with us so far, he discusses what he’s enjoyed most and the elements that have surprised him: “I love that my role gives me the opportunity to work with teams all over the UK. PwC is all about teamwork and it’s great to be able to collaborate with colleagues from different offices and to come together to find solutions to problems.
We’re all working to make a difference, big or small. Whether you’re building bespoke solutions for clients or helping a member of the team, your contribution is always valued.”
Outside of work, Nicholas spends most of his time with his many pets, including his four dogs, his rabbit, guinea pig and turtle. “One of the great things about working at PwC is the blended approach to working and empowered flexibility. This means I can take my dogs out for a walk at lunch time when working from home.”
Nicholas also loves to travel and takes every opportunity he gets to discover new places. “I love to explore different countries, cities and cultures. Being a global firm, I’m also lucky enough to gain exposure to these aspects in my role at PwC.
As well as travelling abroad, I also like to spend time visiting places in the UK. Most recently, my friends and I went hiking up Slieve Donard - the largest summit in Northern Ireland.”
Reflecting on his role so far, Nicholas can’t wait to see what's yet to come. He’s also appreciative of all the training and support he’s received along the way.
“When I first joined, I had a lot to learn. Luckily, I was paired with a great buddy who supported me with my tasks and training and I’m now working on real client cases.
I’ve been supported at every step of my career development journey at PwC. I’ve had the opportunity to shadow members of the team, which was a really insightful experience. It’s shown me where my career could take me in the future.
I’m so glad I took this opportunity and I can’t recommend the Business Management Apprenticeship enough. PwC is an amazing firm with fantastic opportunities, always working to support and upskill their people, it’s such a rewarding place to be.”
