No two days in Tax are ever the same
Tina joined our Corporate Tax team in 2018 through our School and College Leaver programme. Since then, she’s accomplished her goal of completing her exams and apprenticeship and is now a Senior Associate, helping others starting out in their career in Tax.
“My biggest challenge since joining PwC was learning how to balance exams alongside a full-time job. The further you get in your career, the more you realise this challenge is actually a huge source of motivation. Each time you pass a hurdle, you become one step closer towards reaching your end goal!”
Outside of work, Tina’s a keen foodie who enjoys discovering new cuisines, and like many of us, she also loves to dance, travel, read, volunteer and meet up with friends.
Tina also takes the opportunity to socialise at work, engaging with clients and colleagues at various networking events, which has not only built her confidence but has also given her insight into new industries she never knew existed before joining PwC.
“I really enjoy how easy it is to develop your network. You’re constantly meeting new people, which could be through working with new clients, or getting involved in recruitment and volunteering events. It’s always fascinating to hear about people’s different backgrounds and their career journeys. It’s really opened my eyes to the endless opportunities open to me at PwC.”
Working in Corporate Tax, Tina’s role involves ensuring that her clients remain well-informed when it comes to their tax obligations. A career in Tax requires an ability to provide consultation and advice to clients, and one of Tina’s proudest moments was when her input helped secure two big client proposals. The breadth and fast-paced nature of her job is what Tina finds most exciting about working in Tax.
“No two days in Tax are ever the same. Growing up, I held the perception that work would eventually get repetitive and tedious. However, at PwC it almost becomes unusual if your day ends up unraveling in the way you had anticipated as your priorities, commitments and responsibilities can change so quickly. This makes a career at PwC really exciting, since no two clients or circumstances are the same and you are constantly learning new ways of doing things on the job.”
Adapting to working full-time alongside studying does take time and for Tina, one important aspect of navigating this balance was to ensure she communicated well with her team. By informing team members of her upcoming exams, they were able to provide extra advice and support during these periods. As well as receiving support from her team, everyone studying on our School and College leaver programmes also benefits from professional support from our exam providers.
“PwC provides continuous and thorough support for everyone's career development, meaning you’re constantly learning and growing. From day one you’re assigned a Career Coach who supports you along your career journey in respect of personal goals you would like to achieve and opportunities you wish to get involved in. Various training days are arranged throughout the year in order to ensure you continue to have up-to-date technical awareness.”
Tina’s extremely proud of her career journey and has used her platform to share her story with others. While working at PwC, she became a Schools Ambassador in her local region. As an Ambassador, she visited 17 schools during term time, where she was able to share her apprenticeship experiences with engaged students. Tina was also approached by UCAS and was delighted to host a livestream for the organisation, speaking to students interested in apprenticeships. In addition to this work, she’s proud to have been selected to join Kaplan’s Apprenticeship Advisory Panel, where she is a representative voice for current and future apprentices who study with Kaplan.
When sharing the story of her career journey, Tina always has one piece of advice for students who are interested in a career with PwC:
“You will not be disappointed, and the opportunities are endless. It’s a real pleasure being able to work alongside people who are the best in their field - not only does it push you to work harder to unlock your full potential, but it provides an insight of what your own career could look like in the near future if you make the most out of the resources around you.
No two journeys or experiences here are the same, which means that collaboratively we excel as a team and as a firm overall. So, what’s stopping you from being the next contribution to our global success and starting your own story at PwC?”
