Business Administration Apprentice

Why did you choose to work at STFC?

I chose to work at STFC because of the word-leading research and innovation that I get to learn about and experience every day. Even through my Business Administration role, I am exposed to the projects that continue to change how we view the world.

What are your responsibilities?

I am a Business Administration Apprentice working in the public engagement team. I am responsible for coordinating opportunities for other graduates and apprentices to showcase their achievements and to inspire others to get involved in STEM careers at our public events. I also support the team with the delivery of the events and get to talk with members of the public about the science at STFC.

What is the best thing about being based at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory?

The best thing about working at Rutherford Appleton Laboratory is that it is considered normal to be working alongside two particle accelerators and a laser facility that have all been involved in some of the top research around the world. There are meteorites and parts of fossilised dinosaur eggs just metres from my desk, it still amazes me after 6 months!

What makes STFC a great place to work?

STFC offers so many opportunities that you wouldn’t find anywhere else. There are so many once in a lifetime experiences offered to you and a great working-life balance as well.

What training have you received so far?

Aside from the on the job training that I have received throughout my apprenticeship, I have had multiple training courses made available to me which are all specific for the skills I need to develop as part of my apprenticeship.
