How did you apply for Project Planning Apprenticeship Scheme?
I Applied for the Project Planning Apprenticeship Scheme on the TFL careers website where there was a range of TFL Apprenticeship Schemes. I had a look through a couple of the schemes of which I was interested in however the Planning Scheme which was more suited to me.
What was the induction like?
I attended a business wide TFL induction on my first day. The induction was informative. This was followed by a scheme induction which allowed us to interact early on with our colleagues and scheme sponsor and training provider
What do you do on a daily basis?
Work within a project team attending project meetings and interacting with Project heads, carrying out various planning tasks such as updating schedules in p6 - familiarizing myself with what is a complex planning software.
What do you enjoy most?
Having the opportunity to rotate around the business to work in different departments and project teams. This helps to develop a better understanding of the business and how work is planned in the departments. I also enjoy having the opportunity to go out on site where the work is being completed this helps to gain an understanding of how the plan and work tasks fit together.
What skills are necessary to perform well?
Good communication skills so you are able to get the right information from people within your team, being a good team player is also vital as it is important to work together. Having the right attitude is also important , as a planning apprentice we have a lot of opportunities to learn skills, but having the right attitude will ensure that the teams you work within are more inclined to spend time and effort in ensuring you get that training and that you are utilised in a way that is beneficial to you as well as them
What advice would you give to someone applying to Project Planning Apprenticeship Scheme?
Ensure you take time in preparing for all the recruitment stages, and don’t hesitate to call or email if it’s not entirely clear as to what will be required of you.
How has Project Planning Apprenticeship Scheme affected your career prospects?
Doing an apprenticeship is in my opinion is the best way of starting out for a whole range of different career’s. In fact when looking for apprenticeships my biggest priority was the opportunities it provided afterwards.
