About Newcastle Building society
We are the biggest building society in the North East, with more than 1,700 colleagues and 31 branches across the North East, Cumbria, and North Yorkshire. For more than 160 years, we’ve helped people from all walks of life own their homes, save for the future, and received trusted financial advice.
As an organisation owned by our members, we don’t answer to shareholders, and our Purpose of connecting communities with a better financial future guides everything we do.
However, we’re more than just our products and services, we’re dedicated to our communities.
A core part of our Purpose is to make positive changes, build stronger and more vibrant communities. Since 2016, we’ve awarded more than £2.3m in grants and donations from our Community Fund at the Community Foundation serving Tyne & Wear and Northumberland, and our colleagues regularly fundraise and volunteer in their local areas.
We’re also committed to growing the talent in our region.
We work with schools, universities, and partners, such as Newcastle United Foundation and The Prince’s Trust, to help people develop their employability skills, create new opportunities to make a career in financial services more accessible to all.
We’ve also been recognised as being a great place to work where colleagues can be themselves and realise their potential, which is officially recognised by our Platinum Investors in People status.
We recognise the value apprentices bring to the Society. That’s why we’re committed to paying apprentices a ‘Real Living Wage’
Once you’ve completed your apprenticeship programme, you are guaranteed to receive the offer of a permanent position with us.
All of our apprentices will also benefit from being part of our Early Talent community.
In addition to your line manager and team, all of our apprentices will have a robust support network, which includes their peers, mentors, and the wider Early Talent community of undergraduate placement and graduate scheme colleagues.
