2025 Apprenticeship Programme – Construction Management – HS2 – Birmingham

The landmark HS2 Curzon Street Station, which will be net zero carbon in operation, will be the first brand new intercity terminus station built in Britain since the 19th century. Mace Dragados Joint Venture (MDJV) commenced the construction phase of the station in 2024, which will sit at the heart of the high-speed rail network. Curzon Street will be the catalyst for development for Birmingham’s Eastside and Digbeth quarters, bringing seamless connectivity and kickstarting wider regeneration in the area.

In our ‘Construct’ engine, you’ll be at the forefront of bringing projects to life. Primarily site-based, this engine focuses on the hands-on delivery of complex and innovative construction projects, ensuring they are completed safely, on time, and to the highest standards. If you prefer advising and partnering with clients to shape the strategic direction and management of our projects, consider exploring roles in our ‘Consult’ engine, which focuses on driving projects from concept through to completion.

What you’ll do

In Construction Management, you will assist the project team in the daily control, management and coordination of construction activities to ensure the project is delivered on time, on budget, and to the required safety, environmental and quality standards. Some of your main responsibilities will include: 

• Producing and monitoring short-term programmes 
• Reading programme and design drawings and administering daily progress records to ensure that site works progress 
• Contributing to package, coordination, safety and site progress meetings 
• Ensuring safe project working practices are adhered to for all site personnel, taking appropriate action where necessary 
• Assisting Construction Managers with various elements of the build 
• Establishing key relationships with the trade contractors, setting up clear lines of communication to coordinate labour and help address issues that may arise 

You will also work towards completing a Level 4 Construction Site Supervisor apprenticeship, where you’ll achieve a HNC in Construction Site Supervision. We will also support you in gaining professional membership of the Chartered Institute of Building Surveyors (CIOB).

About you

• A minimum of 96 UCAS points
• 5 GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including Maths and English (or equivalent qualifications)

Given the nature of our work, flexibility is key. Our projects and clients are based in various locations, so you should be prepared to travel frequently to different project sites or Mace offices. A positive and adaptable approach to travel is therefore essential, as it may be a regular part of your role. To support this, Mace offers travel expense reimbursements for business travel, including mileage, public transport fares, and, where necessary, accommodation.
