Accounting Flying Start Degree Programme - London

Get your accounting career off to a flying start with Queen Mary, PwC and ICAEW.

• Fast-track your career in accounting and start on the path to becoming an ICAEW Chartered Accountant.
• This programme is a collaboration between Queen Mary University of London, the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) and 'Big Four' accounting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC).
• A series of paid work placements is built into the course, meaning you will have the opportunity to apply the technical theory you learn in the classroom directly to the workplace.
• Learn accounting skills from academic specialists who are experts in their field.
• Work on real projects for real clients as part of PwC's assurance team, and receive technical training during your paid placements.

Professional recognition

This degree was designed with, and is professionally accredited by, the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW). Successful graduates of this degree will have completed 12 of the 15 modules of the ICAEW Associate Chartered Accountant (ACA) qualification.

Teaching

Teaching and learning

The BSc Accountancy (Flying Start) programme combines academic study, integrated professional work placements at PwC, and progress towards the ICAEW Chartered Accountant qualification. Throughout your journey, you’ll be supported by a team of dedicated staff from both the School and PwC, who will help you develop the skills you need to succeed.

You'll receive approximately two hours of weekly contact time per module, consisting of lectures and smaller group seminars.

For every hour spent in class, you’ll complete a further two to three hours of independent study. You'll have access to well-designed resources for this self-directed study, and we will pair you with an academic advisor to support your progress at all stages of your degree.

After you apply

Your UCAS form will be reviewed by a member of admissions staff. Following this review, you will also need to complete additional assessments with PwC, including an online interview and online assessment centre, before you will receive an offer.

Online interview

The PwC online interview can be taken at a time and place to suit you, as long as this is in sufficient time before the assessment centre (we’ll advise you of the deadlines). You will have the opportunity to practice questions and find out more about PwC through completing this exercise.

Assessment centre

The assessment centres are held online in March. The assessment centre involves a group assessment exercise, conducted by PwC. You'll have the opportunity to ask questions, so that you can get a feel for what the programme is about.

After you have attended the assessment centre, we will consider the results of your online assessments and group assessment exercise, before making you an offer.

Assessment

Assessment typically includes a combination of coursework (presentations, assignments, essay report writing, in-class tests, research and project work) and/or examinations in May or June.

The university offers excellent on-campus resources to aid your studies, including:

• a dedicated careers team who can provide you with 1-2-1 careers coaching.
• an alumni network that can connect you with fellow Queen Mary graduates worldwide.

As you will be working on real client work during your placements, you will also receive technical training from PwC.

Graduate opportunities

PwC has consistently been voted Best Graduate Employer in The Times Top 100 Graduate Employers survey. The vast majority of finalists on Flying Start programmes with PwC have received a job offer at the company after graduation, often becoming fully-qualified ICAEW Chartered Accountants just over a year after graduation.

Graduates of Flying Start programmes have also moved into non-accounting roles at PwC.

There is no obligation (on the part of the student or PwC) to progress to a role at PwC following completion of the course.

Career support

PwC will provide each student with a career coach, who will guide the student through PwC’s annual performance management process. Prior to joining PwC for their first work placement, students will be allocated a named 'buddy' who will help induct them into the firm.
