Chemical Engineering Degree Apprenticeship

What is the job?

Apprentices will rotate through Unilever’s process engineering teams, getting exposure to different stages of our product development lifecycle, from learning about and developing new formulation technologies, scaling and optimising our manufacturing processes, deploying products to full-scale manufacturing in our supply chain, and helping to embed digital technologies into the heart of our innovations. You will play a key role in aiding Unilever's Home and Personal Care innovation programmes to deliver superior high-quality products to market.

While doing this you will study part-time at the University of Teesside. By the end of the apprenticeship, you will gain a BEng degree in Chemical Engineering in addition to your L6 apprenticeship.

What do we look for?

We are seeking individuals who are curious and possess strong personal drive. The ideal candidate knows when to ask for guidance, is adaptable, and willing to try new things. A desire to be hands-on in a lab, pilot plant, or manufacturing environment and get stuck in is essential, along with a can-do attitude and plenty of passion. For a career in Unilever, you will need strong problem-solving skills and an eye for detail. If you have these skills and are ready to take on new challenges, we would love to hear from you.

What could your day-to-day look like?

As an engineering apprentice at Unilever, you will be working closely with our highly talented process engineers, supporting the development of new product innovations, unlocking efficiencies in our current operations, and solving real business challenges. From being on the factory floor to the research lab you will get breadth of experience across all parts of our product development lifecycle. In addition to your work-based projects, you will have time away from your role dedicated to academic studies and personal development.

What support do we offer?

During your apprenticeship, you will have regular contact with your line manager, project manager, and programme manager to make sure you are getting the guidance you need to do your role. You will also be assigned a buddy from our existing apprentice cohort who can help you settle into life at Unilever. The University provides academic support through the lecturers and mentors.

What can Unilever offer YOU?

  • A Competitive Salary of £22,716
  • A pension Scheme
  • A discounted staff shop
  • Subsidised Gym Memberships
  • Shares
  • 25 days of holiday allowance

Diversity at Unilever is about championing inclusion, embracing differences, creating possibilities, and growing alongside each other for better business performance. We give full and fair consideration to all applicants, regardless of age, disability, gender reassignment, race, religion or belief, sex, sexual orientation, marriage and civil partnership, and pregnancy and maternity.

Recruitment Fraud

Cybercriminals advertise fake job adverts with prestigious employers as a way of stealing information or even defrauding individuals out of money. In the most sophisticated cases, they will set up fake websites, which have a similar address to companies like Unilever. They even conduct fake telephone interviews and then offer candidates a role with the proviso they pay a fee for background checks or to cover work visa costs. These types of attacks are becoming more common as more people are looking for employment in the economic climate.

How is Unilever tackling this?

Many of Unilever’s recruitment sites publish a warning to candidates about recruitment fraud. The Cyber Security team also proactively scans for signs of people setting up fake Unilever sites and acts to close them down.

What can I do?

If you become aware of potential recruitment fraud, spot fake Unilever recruitment adverts or fake LinkedIn profiles, report them via Una Live Chat.

Unilever does not accept responsibility or liability for any candidates who are financially impacted by recruitment fraud. Your vigilance is key!
