Engineering Degree Apprenticeship

The Airbus Engineering Degree Apprenticeship gives you the “university experience” with 3 whole years of invaluable industry experience. Achieve a BEng (Hons) Aerospace Engineering from Swansea University whilst earning a full-time salary and paying ZERO fees to do so.

This unique 40 month programme not only offers you a degree from one of the most highly-recognised engineering institutes in the country, but together with vocational training and placements in design, manufacturing and quality engineering, you will develop excellent engineering skills recognised across the globe.

You will be studying towards your degree at Coleg Cambria, which is accredited by our university partner Swansea University, and will have a unique opportunity to couple this learning with practical, industry-based work that will take place at our world leading aircraft manufacturing site in Broughton, (near Chester) North Wales.

You will also have the opportunity to work towards your professional accreditation with Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status which will set you up for a fantastic engineering career.

We are also believers in experiential learning too, and there are many events that take place that offer exciting opportunities to grow and develop whilst also having fun!

What you will be doing:

During years 2 & 3 your scheme will operate with 3 days a week in placements and 1.5 days a week on academic leave for your degree. On your placement days you will be working on-site at our Wing Manufacturing Centre of Excellence where you’ll work within a range of different teams. The engineering disciplines you will cover include:

  • Design Engineering
  • Manufacturing Engineering
  • Quality Engineering

Additionally you will gain vital experience working with other support functions such as finance, supply-chain, procurement, logistics and enablement. You will rotate throughout these 3 disciplines approximately every 12 weeks.

Some of the work you could be doing includes:

Design Engineering

  • Working as a “Build Support” engineer to tackle issues daily on the production line as well as developing projects/designs that will reduce issues and improve the product.
  • Working in long-term projects such as “Continuous Product Development” to develop designs that will benefit the aircraft of the future
  • Developing digital solutions (e.g. 3D scanning and modeling) for aircraft design using new technology

Manufacturing Engineering

  • Work as a lineside engineer to support build issues with the assembly process, tooling and other industrial aspects
  • Work on future architecture and industrial development projects to improve the way we manufacture the wings of today and tomorrow.
  • Develop new tooling and technologies (e.g. robotics, automation and 3D printing) to improve wing-build by reducing cost, reducing time, and improving efficiency.

Quality Engineering

  • Work lineside to ensure the quality of the product during build. Raise issues and manage multi-functional teams to resolve problems and improve the product quality.
  • Work on aircraft modifications and future projects to develop quality control.
  • Work within the testing and laboratory facilities to develop materials and processes of the future.

Requirements:

In order to be eligible to this apprenticeship, you must have a minimum of:
