Performance and Improvements Degree Apprenticeship Stevenage

The Performance & Improvements team are responsible for ensuring production has a robust performance monitoring system that can be analysed to drive production improvements. The team lead, facilitate and guide  improvements activities working closely with the relevant production stakeholders (Production, Manufacturing Engineer, Quality, Project Management, Production control) so that we can deliver spacecraft quicker, cheaper and to the highest quality. The team is striving to make the production processes more efficient by applying lean principles looking to remove wastes and reduce variations.

We challenge the normal modes of working to ensure that the business is staying at the forefront of production technology and working practices. Liaising regularly with central P&I teams to learn and share best practices from around the Airbus group (Military aircraft, commercial aircraft, helicopters). The team also gets involved in research & Development Technology (R&D/T) projects to check the feasibility of implementation into our organisation.

What you will be doing:

Reporting to the HO Performance & Improvements UK you will be responsible for improving the “Operation Excellence Maturity” of Stevenage and Portsmouth sites through the implementation of Operation Excellence System (OES), Lean methodology and culture change. 

The types of activities you will be involved in include:

  • Providing support for delivering saving commitments of Stevenage and Portsmouth production through defining and managing the production Improvement Plans;
  • Providing support for successfully delivering improvement projects ensuring targets are met and in line with business expectations;
  • Working with all aspects of production, including manufacturing engineering, quality, production control, electrical test, propulsion test, project management to support them in their improvements, in Stevenage and Portsmouth;
  • Working with production site improvement leaders and colleagues in all European production sites: Portsmouth, Stevenage, Friedrichshafen, Ottobrunn, Madrid and Toulouse as well as working with the wider P&I community to help share best practices and standardise across the business.

This role may involve some travel to other UK Airbus D&S sites.

Requirements:

In order to be eligible to this apprenticeship, you must have a minimum of:

  • 120-128 UCAS points made up of 3 A levels at B or above which must include Maths and a Physics or Engineering based subject

OR

  • A minimum of 2 HL subjects at grade 4 or above which must include HL Maths and Physics

OR 

  • A BTEC Extended Diploma in Engineering at a minimum of DDM with a Merit or above in Further Maths unit or equivalent subject to validation

OR

  • 30 Level 3 credits at Distinction to include Maths or Science or Principles units. The remaining 15 L3 credits must be at merit.

AND 

  • GCSE Maths and English Language at 4/C or above or equivalent subject to validation. 

Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Exemplary communication skills
  • Submit your CV stating your grades and if they are predicted or achieved
  • Submit a Cover Letter stating your motivations

Important Information:

GRADES: If you are on predicted grades, your offer will be conditional to achieving the position’s requirements before the apprenticeship start date.

SECURITY CLEARANCE: Eligibility to gain UK SC Security Clearance OR You will be subject to a BPSS check (including a criminal record check). 

Our apprenticeship roles do not meet the minimum requirements set by UK Visas & Immigration to enable sponsorship of migrant workers.
