Software Engineering Apprenticeship Programme - Edinburgh

BlackRock’s Apprenticeship Programme is an 18-month training contract which provides the opportunity for recent school leavers to earn as they learn. Starting in September 2025, you will be fully immersed in our business, working alongside experts in the industry and receiving on-the-job training and professional development. You will study towards an industry-recognised qualification and receive ongoing support from your manager, buddy and coach.

On successful completion of the programme, apprentices will have the opportunity to receive an offer to join BlackRock as a full-time employee.

What will I be doing?

  • Our Software Engineering team builds and runs the Aladdin product and platform for BlackRock and its external clients. The platform unifies the investment management process to enable scale, provide insights, and support true business transformation. The team is made up of product engineering, design, and Aladdin platform engineering teams that are responsible for building and running Aladdin. 
  • Work as part of a global team on operational support for the large-scale Aladdin computer platform.
  • Work with colleagues internationally to hand over the 24/7 support of the platform. 
  • Identify recurring problems with the platform and propose solutions.
  • Gain hands-on experience working with scripting and programming languages to develop product and platform enhancements.
  • Participate in team meetings, hackathons, and other collaborative activities to enhance learning and development.
  • Engage with users and stakeholders to understand their needs and provide effective solutions.
  • Work within the BlackRock Principles to continue the culture of inclusivity, passion for performance and build a better future for BlackRock and our clients.
  • On successful completion of the apprenticeship, you will be awarded a SCQF Level 8 Software Developer.

Education

  • Applications are encouraged from school leavers of all academic backgrounds.
  • Edinburgh: Candidates will need a pass in National 5 (or equivalent) in English Language and Maths, and have completed three Highers (or equivalent) by September 2025
  • To be eligible, you must not have previously completed an Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in any subject.
