Marine Engineer Level 3 Apprenticeship
As an apprentice, you will gain core knowledge and skills of the professional Engineering industry allowing you to competently carry out a range of skilled tasks relevant to the role of an Engineering Technician for marine-based vessels.

Apprentices will attend college one day per week to undertake both theoretical and practical training for the first three years of the apprenticeship. The final year is delivered solely in the workplace.
Shift work is required for this role.

Entry requirements
- A minimum of 2 GCSE's (or equivalent) Grade 4 - 9 (A*- C), including English and Maths.
- A GCSE Grade 4 - 9 (A* - C) in Science (or equivalent) would be advantageous but not essential.
You must be 18 years of age by 8th September 2025 to be eligible for this scheme
You are not eligible for this scheme if you currently hold or are working towards a qualification at the same or higher level in a related subject or have already studied content from the qualification for this scheme.
Please note that you will be required to provide original certificates and/or predicted grades as proof for your eligibility checks.
Please be advised that should you be successful in getting an offer for this scheme, your offer will be subject to a satisfactory medical which may include but is not limited to: drugs and alcohol screening, eye test and hearing test.

Job overview
Our Engineers focus on the assets that form the foundation of our transport system. You’ll be trained on the technical upkeep of Woolwich Ferry and other terminal assets and their safe operation through the provision of technical and engineering support.

Upon successfully completing this scheme, you could move into an Assistant Engineering Officer role with the opportunity to develop into a Marine Engineering Officer role at Woolwich Ferry.
What training and support will you get?
Our award-winning teams will support your ongoing development, through a wide range of on-the-job practical experience and placements. We'll support your professional development through a combination of training, mentoring, and networking.
You'll also receive one-to-one guidance throughout the programme from your:
- Placement manager: Responsible for your day-to-day management and supports with your development
- Scheme sponsor: A senior manager who acts as a technical and professional adviser and has line manager responsibility
- Buddy: Usually, a more experienced apprentice or graduate who can give you support
- Development adviser: Supports your professional development through providing career coaching and career progression at TfL

Assessment Process
You will receive support and information around each assessment stage as you progress through your application.
Please pay close attention to emails and deadlines provided noting you have 1 week to complete assessments and we cannot re-issue these tests.
Assessment centres for apprenticeship roles will take place from April - July, please note that many roles only have 1 assessment day and we are unable to guarantee additional dates. We are conducting assessment centres in person and virtually (role dependent).
